Frequently Asked Questions
What destinations in Peru does Yachay Travel specialize in?
Yachay Travel specializes in tours to Cusco city, the Sacred Valley, Rainbow Mountain, Machu Picchu, Humantay Lake, Huchuy Qosqo, and Kinsa Cocha.
Are your tours private or group tours?
We offer both private and group tours to cater to different preferences. Please contact us with your specific requests.
What is the best time to visit Peru for your tours?
The dry season in Peru runs from May to September, offering more stable weather, although the grass will likely be dry. This is also the peak tourist season, so certain locations may be more crowded. (Rest assured, we’ll do everything we can to minimize any impact.)
From November to January, expect increased rainfall, typically limited to part of the day, which brings vibrant green landscapes.
Please note that the Inca Trail is closed in February for maintenance.
What is the altitude like in your tour destinations?
Our destinations range in altitude from 3,399 meters (11,152 feet) in Cusco to 5,200 meters (17,060 feet) at Rainbow Mountain. The Sacred Valley is a little lower at around 2800m (9200ft). We recommend consulting your doctor before your trip if you have any concerns.
What's the guide on tipping?
Tipping is not required but is a wonderful way to show appreciation and satisfaction with the service. Your guides, cooks, porters, and other staff work hard to ensure your trip is pleasant and rewarding. Many of our staff come from communities across the region and rely on the money they earn to support their families. A recommended tip is around 120 soles for the cook and 100 soles for each porter per trip.
Do I need to exchange money?
If you plan to purchase souvenirs, snacks, or other items during your trip, be sure to bring Peruvian Soles. Cusco offers plenty of places to exchange currency, or you can conveniently withdraw soles from an ATM if you have a debit card.
What is the age range for a child’s ticket price?
Children 3 years to 17 years old qualify for the child price. Under 3 are free.
Do your tours include meals and accommodations?
Please refer to the specific tour itinerary for detailed information. As most of our tours are single day tours, accommodations are not included. Our full day tours typically include a meal.
What should I pack for my tour?
We recommend packing layers of clothing, comfortable hiking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, camera, rain gear, insect repellent, and any necessary medications.
Do I need a visa to visit Peru?
Citizens of most countries do not need a visa to visit Peru for tourism purposes. Please check with your local embassy or consulate for specific requirements.
