About This Tour

Experience one of Peru's most breathtaking natural wonders on this Rainbow Mountain Tour, an unforgettable adventure through the high Andes. To ensure you enjoy the site with fewer crowds, we depart early at 3:00 AM from Cusco. Our journey begins with a two-hour drive through the darkness, followed by a delicious organic breakfast prepared by our cook. We then continue a bit further to the trailhead, where we’ll begin our challenging yet rewarding hike. The trek starts at an altitude of over 4,000 meters (13,100 feet) and takes approximately two hours to reach the summit of Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca). This iconic mountain, known for its vibrant, multicolored stripes, is a true geological masterpiece. The striking hues of pink, red, yellow, and green come from layers of mineral-rich sediments that were deposited millions of years ago.  As you reach the summit, you’ll be mesmerized by the awe-inspiring panoramic views of this vibrant geological wonder, with its surreal colors contrasting beautifully against the backdrop of the snow-capped Andes. After taking in the breathtaking sights at Rainbow Mountain, we’ll continue to the nearby Red Valley viewpoint. This hidden gem is just as captivating, offering sweeping views of vast, deep red valleys and rolling hills. The intense crimson and rust tones of the landscape are a result of iron-rich minerals in the soil. The descent to the car takes about an hour, allowing you to soak in the beauty of the surrounding mountains. We’ll then enjoy a scenic one-hour drive back to our breakfast spot, where you can relax and savor a delicious, nutritious lunch. Finally, we’ll journey back to Cusco, concluding this unforgettable adventure.
